Within refugee status determination processes it has become common for Governments, courts and regional and international institutions, such as the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA) and UNHCR to issue country guidance to ensure consistency across decision-makers. The influence of country guidance is therefore potentially far reaching.

The panel brings together experts in the field of refugee law and international protection to share reflections and inform discussion on the development and use of country guidance and explore best practice in ensuring the international protection needs of persons fleeing armed conflicts are fulfilled. Christel Querton will present preliminary findings of her case study research into EUAA Country Guidance on Iraq, and panellists will share insights drawing on their expertise within their fields. Attendees are encouraged to participate in the discussion that will follow.
